Everybody knows that Thailand is exceptionally tolerant when it comes to transgender issues, but I found this surprising even for Thailand! Apparently a rural Thai school installed transsexual restrooms, appropriately located between the girl’s bathroom and the boy’s bathroom. They are complete with a rather disturbing-looking icon – it appears they took the left half of the standard “men’s bathroom” symbol and the right half of the standard “women’s bathroom” symbol and joined them at the middle Crazy. Couldn’t they have just given the male icon long hair or something? These are, after all, school-aged kids who aren’t old enough to actually have sex reassignment surgery and who are still required to wear their birth-gender appropriate uniforms.

This whole story reminds me of the Southpark episode where Gerald Broflovski undergoes dolphinoplasty and has to ask “excuse me, where are the dolphin restrooms?” Incidentally, that was Episode 126 entitled Mr. Garrison’s Fancy New Vagina. Which would be another fine topic for my blog
